Junior 2 Outing

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The educational outing to the Bird Park Malta in Burmarrad, which unfortunately had to be cancelled due to bad weather, is being rescheduled to Friday 24th February.  The outing includes a visit to the aviary collection which includes different species of birds as well as a number of wild animals not usually seen in Malta.
For those of you who have not paid yet, may I remind you that the fee is of €7.00 which includes the entrance fee, the transport and a donation of €1.00 towards the Park itself.
The outing will only take place weather permitting.  Should the outing be cancelled the students will have school as usual on our premises.  Thus, it is extremely important that students still bring with them their books for the Friday timetable.
Whilst thanking you in advance, please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any query.
Sincerely yours,
Brian Gauci School Coordinator
“Dear fellow parents,
As you know, our little ones will be celebrating their First Holy Communion in June time.  It has become practice at St. Catherine’s High School that the parents group up (obviously this is entirely optional!) and organise one party for the children together and their families and teachers and admin of St. Catherine’s, rather than have single parties for each child.  This is entirely organised by the parents and has over the years been a beautiful celebration for all the children.
As such, I am taking the plunge, as a parent, to ask you all whether you would be:
a) interested in participating in this party … this obviously would incur a cost per ticket, and
b) interested in being part of the working group who will get quotes from hotels or other reception venues and see to the organisation of the event.
I hope we can come together as a group to organise this beautiful event for our children.  Kindly send me your reply and/or interest in being part of the group on my email address – sue.mifsud.midolo@stcatherines.eu
I thank you all for your attention.  Best regards,
Sue Mifsud Midolo (mummy of Faye Mifsud Midolo)

Helping our Community

As 2012 kicks off, at St. Catherine’s High School we are busy thinking of how to continue to better the educational journey we offer our students.

Part of the educational journey of every student involves helping children become aware of their involvement in the world, and the role they too can play in making the world a better place.

To this effect, we are currently thinking of ways to help our children become sensitive to the needs of the community they belong to …. whether it is the needs of their fellow friends, their class as a space, their families, their town/village, their country, and their world.

We are thus thinking of how to create a Pastoral Dimension in our Junior School and would like to ask the participation of parents in this regard.  Thus, if you have some time and you would like to be part of a working group which serves as a Pastoral Think-Tank on ideas to implement with our children to sensitize them to the community around them, you are kindly requested to send an email to Ms. Sue Mifsud Midolo on sue.mifsud.midolo@stcatherines.eu expressing your interest to participate in this group.

In the meantime, we will be taking part, together with the Senior School in the School Outreach Programme offered by the Jesuit Refugee Service to bring awareness about refugees in Malta. The Senior students next Tuesday will be having a day with the JRS here at school and are in the process of collecting money to aid the JRS in their work.  The Junior School will be organising a similar day in the coming weeks but in the meantime, we are asking students to donate a can of polpa, tuna, vegetables, a cereal box, pasta to aid the JRS as they help refugees in thier day to day wellbeing.  Students are to bring these cans, packets, boxes to school by not later than Monday 16th January since we will be presenting them to the JRS on Tuesday 17th January.  They are to give the items to their class teachers.

I urge you all to help us educate our children to make this world a better place by being children who are empathic to the needs of others … and thus also learning how to become sensitive leaders of tomorrow!

I thank you for your co-operation!

Ms. Sue Mifsud Midolo

Junior School Director

Dear parents and children,

I thank you all for the great support you have given me during the concert.  The children performed to the best of their ability and made this a truly wonderful evening for everyone.  The teachers and administration work hard but we really enjoy putting up this show for you.  I am so proud of my Junior 2A students, you really never fail to surprise me, you were simply awesome.  Well done to everyone.  This is what Christmas is all about, coming together as a big family.

I take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Concert – update

Dear parents,

I have told the children to bring lunch with them to the concert this afternoon.   They are also allowed to bring any game or colouring book with colours to keep themselves occupied backstage.  Any Nintendos etc are brought at owners own risk. Please be  at Rabat punctually at 4.45pm.  Thank you.

Ms Silvana

Dear parents,

Tomorrow Friday 16th December we will be having another dress rehearsal for the Junior 2A only.

Kindly send the costumes of the children in a bag.

Thank you.

Junior 2s Dress Rehearsal – Wednesday 14th December

Parents, kindly note the following points re the Dress Rehearsal on Wednesday.

Students are to come to school wearing their costume directly from home since we will be leaving school at 8.05am to go to St Agatha’s Auditorium.  Students are to bring with them to the auditorium their lunch bag and the blue school uniform jacket.  In a separate bag, they are to bring their school uniform so that when they return to school at 10.30am they can then change back into their uniforms.  They will continue with regular lessons after that.

Please note the following:

Merlin – I will give you your beard and magic stick at school.

Madam Mim – I will give you your magic wand.  Try and tie your hair with some ribbons if you have.  Purple ones are the best colour.

King Arthur – Make sure you bring your cape, crown and stick with you besides your costume.  White socks please.

3 Soldiers – Make sure you wear your black clothes, black socks and black shoes.   I will be bringing your armour and if I manage to finish them, your helmets too.  Your spears are ready, I will bring them with me.

Ladies – Please wear your hair hanging down, this is the way you will be wearing it on stage.  If you would like to come to school with it tied, you may do so and I will then remove your band before you go on stage.  I will be giving you your head veil at school.  Nikol, I have a white long skirt for you so all you need to do is come to school wearing a white long sleeved polo top to wear on it and bring a belt too.

Men – Please wear the outfits you have shown me at school.  White socks please and black shoes.

Parents also please note that on Saturday, the children will also be needing a Santa’s costume and a torch.  Please make sure that the batteries are new since the children will be very disappointed if their torches do not work.  These are not required for the dress rehearsal.

Tickets for the concert are available from Mr Midolo at 9 Euro.

Children must be at the theatre on Saturday 17th December at 4.45pm the latest.  Our item is one of the first ones, therefore it is important to be there on time.

I thank you for your attention to all of the above and for your continued cooperation and support.  We hope that you will all attend and make this a memorable evening for yourselves, the children and myself too.  We have worked hard to put on this show.

Kind regards

Ms Silvana
